Cause Of Female Hair Loss Explored

Saturday, December 29th, 2007
by Sarah Rowe

There are a number of different reasons for why a woman may find that she starts to lose her hair. Yet although some women do suffer from hair loss, it is not to the same extent that men do. In this article, we look at one reason that is the cause of female hair loss and is the most common.

Yet even though we still think that hair loss is predominantly a male problem, today quite a few women are likely to suffer from some form of serious hair loss. In fact, according to the American Academy of Dermatology around 30 million women in the United States alone are troubled with hair loss of one sort or another.

For some women the reason that they start to lose hair is because of their genetic makeup. This kind of hair loss comes down to the way that the hormones known as androgens in their body interfere with the natural processes. The hormones, which make up this particular group, are androstenedione, testosterone and Dihydrotestosterone or DHT. All of which both men and women produce, but a woman’s amounts are much smaller than those produced by a man’s are.

Although all women have this hormone in their bodies, when it is able to connect with a particular enzyme it can then convert easily into Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This then binds itself to the woman’s hair follicle receptors and starts to interfere with the growth of hair on her body.

Generally, this build up of DHT on the hair follicles takes some time so a woman will only see a gradual increase in their hair loss. The build up also causes the hair follicles to shrink and so the pattern for natural hair growth in a person begins to alter. Often as this happens, a woman is likely to notice that they are beginning to suffer from female pattern baldness or androgenic alopecia if you wish to use its medical name.

Even though the cause of this form of baldness in women is much the same way as it is in men, the pattern of the baldness is different. With women their baldness will be somewhat diffused and generally occurs as a thinning of the hair on top of the scalp. On the other hand men will normally start to lose hair completely from specific areas of the head, namely at the crown or around the temple or at the back.

The other main difference between the female version and the male version of pattern baldness is that men usually only start to suffer from it as they grow older. However, for women they can suffer from this kind of hair loss at any stage of their lives. In some cases it may well be that the loss has been caused by some other underlying medical condition that they have.

As well as the above, there are other reasons as to why a woman may suffer from hair loss. Certainly, when it comes to deciding what the cause of female hair loss is in a particular woman it may come down to a number of different factors. With Some women, the cause can be from a traumatic event in their lives, whilst for others it could be down to some kind of medical condition or treatment.

How To Market Your Home Based Business Online

Saturday, December 29th, 2007
by Stephen Meyer

Promoting your home based business online is the number one way to build your business quickly. That is if you do it productively using the correct tools. Many online advertisements may appear to be terrific when in reality they are not the most productive. You want your efforts to always do the most good with the least amount of effort.

Free FFA Pages

Free For All sites known as FFA sites can appear to be very productive. Most have extremely large user bases, often with millions of members. Nothing sounds better than advertising your Home based business to 1 million people and more for free. It is simple to submit to these sites.

The submission form has a top box for your “Headline” a second box for your text and a third box for the URL of the site you are promoting. They ask for your name and email address but your email address is not published in your advertisement. It is though given to the other members of the FFA site to use for advertising their product. You can expect to get hundreds and thousands of emails from site members all promoting what they have to offer. If you use these sites use an email address that is not your main email, gmail and others are good for this.

The problem I see with this type of advertising comes from my own behavior when receiving the hundreds of emails. I often just highlight as many emails as possible and delete them all very quickly. I don’t bother trying to read them because of the sheer numbers I receive. I am sure most members do the same thing. Also, I track all my advertisements using specific URLs and I have not once had a response even when sending many advertisements. In my opinion it is a waste of time.

Traffic Exchanges

I enjoy using Traffic exchanges because of the variety of advertisements I can see and learn from. You can advertise for free using the sign up credits and then clicking ads for even more credits. The time you must visit a site is put on a timer and you have to wait to click another ad. To use these sites affectively you must use a Splash page otherwise known as a Lead Capture page. The point of your page is to get the visitors name and email address. You do not want to try and sell them here. You only want to gain enough interest to get their information so you can sell them through your email or news letter campaign. Using your main sales page or web site will give you little benefit because the visitor will not be there long. Like you they are surfing for credits. These sites can be productive if used correctly but they can also be a waste of time you could otherwise use with better tactics.

Using Articles For Site Promotion

Article marketing is by far the number one way to promote your home based business. The good part is it can be done for free. Many people believe you must have a lot of skills to affectively write an article but that couldn’t further from the truth. It simply involves having knowledge about the subject you are writing about. If you can talk about a subject with your family and friends or can write an email you can also write an article. The benefits of Article writing are very long lasting. It’s common for website publishers to add articles to their web sites that were written many years earlier if the information is still applicable as it often is.

While it may seem hard to write an article or seem like you must have a lot of skills in reality it is very simple. If you can carry on a conversation about a subject or send out emails or personal letters you can write an article. You want your articles to be full of factual information that is useful for your audience but technical writing skills are not necessary. It is best to simply write your article in your own words with your own personality reflected. Simply write about subjects you know and submitting it to some of the larger Article Directories is by far the most affective way to build a long term stable and profitable business.

Hair Loss And Thyroid Problems

Saturday, December 29th, 2007
by Sarah Rowe

There are many reasons why a person could be losing their hair even at a young age. Some of these are because of hormonal changes taking place in their bodies, for others it may be to do with their dietary habits. Whilst for others it may be caused by severe stress (whether mental or physical) and for others it could be caused by a medical condition. Certainly, there is a connection between hair loss and thyroid problems.

In this article, we will look at why when a person’s thyroid gland does not work properly it can actually affect regrowth of a person’s hair. In addition, we look at what you can do should you begin to suffer from hair loss from this type of medical problem.

Both forms of thyroid medical conditions (hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism) can be responsible for a person losing their hair prematurely. When a person suffers from either one of these then, in many cases, the process that allows a person’s hair to grow begins to shut down.

This is because when a person’s thyroid begins to malfunction it forces the hair follicles to remain in the dormant phase of the hair growth process for much longer than normal. This in turn results in growth of new hair being halted and so leads to the person eventually starting to lose their hair.

There are several things a person can do in order to help tackle any thyroid related hair loss problem that may be occurring. Below we look at some of the things that you can do in order to help tackle such a problem should you discover you have a problem with your thyroid glands and how they function.

Tip 1 - The first thing you should do is arrange to see a professional such as a dermatologist or a hair loss expert who will carry out tests in order to rule out any other causes for your hair loss. If you are unable to find a person who specializes in dealing with hair loss matters then contact the American Hair Loss Council.

Tip 2 - If you do have a problem with your thyroid gland and are needing to take medication to treat it, then check what side effects if any are associated with it. Drugs like Synthroid, which are used by many for any kind of thyroid problem, is noted for causing hair loss in some people. Also seek your doctor’s advice as soon as possible, they may not realize that this drug and others like it cause such problems and could well suggest an alternative form of treatment.

Above we have explained the reasons why hair loss and thyroid problems are related and what you can do in order to help prevent the condition from getting any worse. Certainly, by making sure you seek medical advice as soon as you notice a change in your hair then the sooner a course of treatment can be provided.

Newspaper Cartoons: Why They Exist

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

by Rick London

Newspapers run a full page called “the comics page” in which they receive no revenue. Why do they do it?

It may not be direct money, but savvy publishers have a better reason for running comics than for money alone.

Newspaper comics create loyalty, and usually while the reader is very young and reads nothing but the comics. Newspaper publishers are not ignorant, and they know loyalty sells papers and circulation sells advertising.

Though journalists are highly trained professionals, cartoonists are the backbone of any paper. They can tell a full page story in a box. They can focus on current events or remain generic, but they are still telling a story.

A reader who started reading a paper years ago, may not even be consciously aware that the quality of the paper has gone down (or up), but he/she does know that a cartoon will be there that will make them laugh.

The publisher and editor also knows that even after loyalty has been created, the average reader wants some comic relief as most news is bad news. If the reading gets too rough, he/she can always flip a few pages to the comics and smile.

Unfotunately, the newspaper is not always the best-bet for finding the comic you like. The Far Side, for instance was an experiment. Newspapers traditionally choose family-friendly comics that the family can share and laugh at together. The Far Side targeted a bit more intellectual audience.

Cartoons also can be very influential. Charles “Sparky” Schulz knew that when creating “Peanuts”.

Charlie Brown was created by Schulz to show us our “inner loser”. We all know, no matter how famous or successful we become, that inner-loser remains. Charlie Brown helped us laugh at ourselves by expressing it for us.

Gary Larson understood clearly that college students and baby boomers liked comics too. And they didn’t always like mainstream rated “G” comics. It was an experiment to create one that dealt with the intellect and it worked.

It is not well-known, but most cartoonists do not make the bulk of their money from newspaper publishing. It is from licensed products such as greeting cards, books, t-shirts, calendars and the like.

Cartooning is not just an art but a science and a shrewd business, following trends and knowing what newspaper readers want. It is all and well that the cartoon may be funny and/or well drawn, but to the savvy newspaper editor or publisher, is it attracting the loyalty of an influential audience? If it is, it is worth its weight in thousands of full-page ads, simply because eventually it will be attracting them, not to mention more readership.

Common Hair Loss Cause In Women

Friday, December 28th, 2007
by Sarah Rowe

Today 1 in 4 women will suddenly start to notice that they are losing more hair than would be considered normal. Often there are several different reasons, which have resulted in them losing hair. Below we look at the two main types of hair loss women may suffer from. Certainly the more a person learns the more they understand about the hair loss in women causes.

1. Androgenetic Alopecia, this is exactly the same condition that men suffer from. However, with women rather than losing your hair completely and having bald patches appear on the scalp, the hair becomes thinner and diffused. In a number of cases, rather than women suffering from just one sort of hair loss with this particular problem, you may find it made up of a combination of different hair loss factors.

With this particular form of hair loss the main factors which result in this condition occurring is that their hormones are not working correctly. Just as with men when high levels of the hormone DHT appear in their body this can partially be the cause of the woman’s hair loss.

The other reason why a woman may suffer from female pattern baldness involves their genetic makeup. Although some people believe that only the woman’s father needs to have this gene in order to suffer from this form of hair loss, in fact it needs to be both parents that have passed the gene on.

2. Telogen Effluvium is not as common as the above mentioned but can occur at any stage in a woman’s life. It happens when they have undergone some traumatic event. Mostly this will occur in women during the birth of a child, when they have undergone some kind of major surgery, or they are suffering from high levels of stress.

The only difference between this type of hair loss and that mentioned previously is that usually a woman will notice a difference about 6 weeks to 3 months after the event has occurred. For some women the condition may be so severe that they begin to lose clumps of hair from particular areas of the scalp, rather than a general thinning of hair over the scalp as a whole. Nevertheless, with the right diagnosis and treatment, this can be brought under control and in most cases, they may find the condition goes into remission.

However, for some women the condition of Telogen Effluvium can be so severe that it becomes a chronic disorder and will persist for months or years. Unfortunately, for these women actually finding and understanding what is causing the problem to occur is the most difficult thing that they will face.

Above we have looked at what are considered to be the two most common of all hair loss women causes. However, if diagnosed correctly then the right kind of treatment can be provided and this will then reduce the chances of the condition becoming far worse. Not only will the right treatment help to prevent further hair loss, but is also likely to help hair regrowth in the future.

Your Basement Bar Idea

Friday, December 28th, 2007
by Casey Torren

Getting a basement bar idea is one of the best things you can come up with as a homeowner. Its especially useful when you have a lot of friends coming over to party on weekends. Even for just the simple joy of hanging out, the basement is a perfect spot.

What makes a basement more enjoyable to hangout with is when you know people like it too. Having a very good basement bar idea is one thing that gives you that sense of fulfillment. The conversation doesn’t seem to end. Here are some things you need to set it up.

1. Sink. Remember to keep your sink in a corner where it’s near the plumbing system. This is will make it easier to install. Since all ends of the plumbing system in your house leads to the basement, might as well set up your mini bar there. Your wet bar is where you wash stuff or drain all excessive spills into the sink.

2. Liquor shelves. Having a liquor shelf in your basement bar is essential since you’ll be serving drinks in the room. Place your liquor shelf in an area where the temperature is consistent. This will help as most of the wine and other liquor types are temperature regulated. A basement bar idea can never be complete without this.

3. Keg, cooler, and a refrigerator. Consider installing a beer keg shelf under your bar if you’re thinking about serving beer. It’s safe and it’s easy to manage. Some bar units have a built-in keg cabinet. An alternative to the beer keg is a cooler to put your beer bottles in. However, coolers can also be messy after the party. If you don’t like coolers or keg, put a mini ref in your basement bar. But these are also must haves for a basement bar.

4. The bar. Can a basement bar be what it is without the bar? You have a choice of building your own. Some carpentry skills and a little time in your weekend schedule is what you basically need. This is most practical when your budget is tight. However, if cash is not a concern, buy one. There are a lot of different types of bars that suits your basement bar idea to choose from.

5. A bartender. Add an experienced bartender to your basement bar. However, this can add to your overhead cost. If you have a friend who knows how to mix concoctions, send him in. But if you don’t, the next best option is to study this art of mixing drinks. The fun part is when the party begins. Having this is your plan completes your basement bar idea.

Many basement bars don’t even look like a basement at all. The designs are so good you might think it’s a bar in a hotel restaurant. The point is that all you need is a good and clear vision of how your bar should look like. Your basement bar idea is your key to make it happen. When it’s done you’ll be the envy of your friends and neighborhood.

Branding & Private Labeling. It’s A Breeze. Or Is It A Hurricane?

Friday, December 28th, 2007
by Rick London

Long before the Internet Calvin Klein knew it, Ralph Lauren, even Famous Amos knew it, as did so many others. Think of all the brand names you buy. Have you ever wondered how they did it?

Most of us think of ourselves as “the underdog” when it comes to private labeling; the Calvin Klein’s of the world had millions backing them. That may or may not have been the case, but, since the Internet was created, it really doesn’t even matter any more.

Information on branding used to be a very well-kept secret. After the Internet was founded, the cat was let out of the bag.

When I entered the world of e-commerce, all I had to offer were cartoons, a lot of them. But I had to decide on what products to put them. I was no “trust fund baby” so I had to think smarter, better, faster than those who were.

Since I was on a shoestring, I started with a print-on-demand company such as Cafe Press and a few others. I didn’t even have to pay for the web space, simply digitally-design my products and they did the rest. I left them for awhile to form my own stores, but they grew and added hundreds of more products, and improved their quality and service so I recently launched Rick London Collection there and it is already successful. It is merely another outshoot of Londons Times Cartoons.

So I found another company called Printfection that offers digitally produced items. No affiliate program yet, and not the huge variety of Cafepress, but the quality was what I was after. I would rather sell a thousand quality tees, jerseys, sweats coasters, aprons, etc. than 10,000 of the same in which the image fades, or fabric tears etc. I have gone through that experience with a number of firms. It is a live and learn process. I have used about six and Printfection (even with its flaws comes out ahead).

There is more than one way to skin a cat. Though I wanted my Rick London label on everything, I was not a trust fund baby. And like many entrepreneurs, my dreams were a bit larger than my pocketbook, but I still felt I had the right to dictate quality control. So until Cafe Press got their act together, which admittedly they finally did, I began using a Denver print-on-demand named Printfection to launch several niche stores including RickLondonwear . It turned out to be a good idea.

Another incentive to purchase the product, and it is a big one, is that I decided to offer engraving on the cups with the senders company name and URL for only $2 instead of the $10-20 that it often costs. This makes for a most unique and personal corporate gift for several reasons. The first is, one has to ask oneself, what is one of the first thing someone sees when they wake up in the morning (besides the irritating alarm clock)? Their favorite coffee cup. And trust me, with the right artwork or cartoon, it soon becomes a favorite.

And then I added personalization for only $2. I could have charged a lot more for this engraving but the volume makes up for the difference. Corporate gifts are big business, and to find a unique corporate gfit, I mean very unique, is not the easiest thing in the world. The buyer gets his/her company name and URL on any of the items in the Superstore.

I do not like waking up to bad news. I like waking up to laughter. When I was a kid I set the alarm so I could watch the 3 Stooges every morning. I went to school smiling. My dad read the morning paper, went to work frowning and came home frowning. He then turned on the evening tv news and frowned some more. I was reading Mad Magazine. I grea up happy. My dad was right about so many things, and he was right to keep up with current events, but not to be obsessed with them. A little balance is a good thing and you offer it with these kinds of corporate gifts and your client is grateful for it.

I’m not sure I could have made it without the Internet, maybe so; maybe locally or regionally. But it sure is fun to say, travel to Martinique and people know who I am, or at least what Londons Times Cartoons is.

Turbine Boardwear Proves More Bang For Your Buck

Friday, December 28th, 2007
by Danny Luong

Protection from the snow never looked so good, especially when your on the mountain splattered in snowboard apparel goodness. If it’s warm, relaxed snowboard pants and jackets your looking for, Turbine definitely has you covered and comfortable.

To prevent any further cold symptoms, Turbine has incorporated a PVC no soak material into their jackets to protect you from even the worst of blizzards. And If that wasn’t enough, the snowboard jackets also include the high density 100% polyester fiber insulation and micro fleece lined hood and collar, Turbine definitely has you covered and comfortable in any given situation.

Everyone knows snowboarding skills is second to looking good in the snow. That’s where the Turbine FWED Snowboard Jacket comes in. Though your no where near a safari, keeping the Faux Fur trend is paramount when impressing the tourist with that death defying backward rail slide, or just walking back to the lodge. If fake fur isn’t your thing try the Whitiker Snowboard Jacket, cause if the expression on your face doesn’t turn heads, the cleverly designed zebra stripes definitely will.

Everyone has at least ten Turbine jackets, so where’s yours? Products made and designed by Turbine knocks other companies off the mountain. With Jackets ranging from the Chromium to the Whitiker, each consisting of Printed Power Mesh and 100% Polyester Fiber for ultimate moisture management, it’s unbelievable that you don’t own four.

The Turbine snow pants are a different matter, in two words I can explain why these items have been flying off the selves: waist adjusters. The only thing more gratifying than snowboard gear that turns heads instead of spines is snowboard gear that hang from your waist and not your knees.

Even though Charles Darwin didn’t own a 40gb iPod or the latest Blackberry to put in Turbines ever so convenient Music / Communication Pocket, he sure could have used the Snowboard Jacket to keep warm during his stay on Galapagos Islands. Regardless if your a Pro Snowboarder or a humble man trying to prove the theory of natural selection, you can rest easy knowing theres a pocket for your electronics.

Who said doing a Backside 180, Double Grab, Fakie Frontflip, Rail Slide is the only thing that’ll work up a sweat? Though this is far from true, you can ride down the mountain with ease knowing the underarm exhaust vents in the Turbine Snowboard Jacket is taking care of the perspiration while your friend breaks one of his several limbs.

The fact that the Turbine Snow Pants are made with 100% polyester shell, using words like “unsurpassable” or “comfort abuse” hardly seems to do it justice. The Turbine Snow Pants are the product of manufactured perfection. Expect to see these exact pairs in upcoming Hollywood movies.

How To Choose The Best Women’s Uggs

Friday, December 28th, 2007
by Abigail Madisson

Shopping for women’s uggs is never quite as simple as it seems. Aside from the fact that it’s getting harder and harder to find stocks of authentic uggs for sale, ladies have to worry too over tons of fashion considerations. There are a couple of things you could do though to help make ugg shopping more of a breeze.

Study the Styles

The only decision ladies had to make before was whether they wanted tall or short classic uggs. These days though, these sheepskin boots come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. You can have crochet or cardy or the usual suede in various boot styles. Moreover, there are now numerous other designs for ugg shoes and slippers that women can wear on casual occasions or at home.

Before setting out to buy uggs, make sure you do a little online research on what you really like. Take into consideration your own preference and the colors and clothes styles in your present wardrobe. There are also some women who may look better in some styles but not in others. Some petite women for example would look great with classic tall uggs while others would appear squatter.

Research

The best way to help you decide is to gather a wider variety of choices from your research. Look at boot or shoe styles. You could also read product reviews that will give you comprehensive user opinions and experiences with a particular ugg style. Reading reviews will also probably give you a clue on the places that are the best for shopping for uggs. You need this particular information so that you don’t end up buying knock off uggs.

Look at the Children’s Section

There can be many reasons why you should drop by the the children’s uggs section when shopping. If you have small or dainty feet, some children’s uggs might be able to fit you. You can then enjoy an even greater variety of choices. For some women this is a great chance to save up on a few dollars. Children’s uggs cost a little cheaper than those for adults.

Comparison Shop

Aside from an ugg brand’s official website, you can also shop for uggs for women in other websites. There are many legitimate websites that sell quality authentic footwear. Don’t just settle though on the first website you come across. It is a good idea to comparison shop. Some websites might not have updated prices. Others might also be offering some uggs models at a discount.

If you want to detect which products are fake and which are not, try comparing different uggs sites. You may notice suspiciously low prices and differences in footwear features once you compare items from one website to another.

Save Up

The real thing may be quite expensive so you may have to save up if you want the authentic ones. Stiff prices and the difficulty of finding a preferred design sometimes drive people to indiscriminately buy from some auction sites. There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying from auctions or buying second hand but you need to be able to tell fake uggs from real ones.

Dreamweaver Cs3 And Css

Friday, December 28th, 2007
by Andrew Whiteman

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) has become as pivotal a technology in the building of websites as HTML. Originally, CSS was mainly used for defining the appearance of text (font, size, colour, etc.). However, with the improvement of browser compatibility with the CSS specification, CSS is now the recommended method of controlling all aspects of the presentation of HTML documents within the browser window.

Adobe Dreamweaver is a very widely used platform for developing web sites and web content and, although used by experienced developers, is also widely used by non-specialists for whom Dreamweaver’s user-friendly visual interface takes the pain out of web site creation. The way in which Dreamweaver implements CSS is very important for the casual user, since it will influence the kind of sites they end up producing.

Dreamweaver CS3 is the first version of the program which assumes that the user will want to use CSS to control the layout of their web pages. To assist inexperienced and would-be web developers, each time a new page is created, the program allows the user to choose allocate a preset CSS layout to the page. There are about 30 such layouts and they come in single, double and three column varieties.

Pages created using CSS rely heavily on the use of the HTML DIV element, a multipurpose container of web content. Choosing one of the Dreamweaver CSS presets creates a page containing a series of DIV elements complete with placeholder text and the CSS code necessary to control the position and dimension of the DIVs. The placeholder text and HTML code both contain brief explanations of the techniques used and advice on how to customise these basic pages for your own purposes.

The CSS code for pages created using Dreamweaver’s preset layouts is embedded in the page itself. If a user creates a series of such pages, each one will have its own CSS code making updating very time-consuming. It is far more efficient to have all of the CSS code in one external file and link each page to this one file. At present, Dreamweaver doesn’t really make this clear to new users. However, it does have an excellent feature for moving embedded CSS code into an external file. You simply select all of the CSS definitions you wish to externalise then choose Text - CSS Styles - Move CSS Rules.

Although this ability to move CSS around is really great, it’s not something that beginners will necessarily think of doing. It points to the fact that Dreamweaver could still do with a few enhancements to its implementation of CSS.

Dreamweaver CS3 still has includes the automatic creation of CSS styles whenever the user applies font attributes to text. Simply removing the ability to select text and apply these basic attributes would prevent this from happening. From a beginner’s point of view, it would be far more useful to just have a “Style” menu with an option to create a new style if no styles already exist.
