Poker Chips Sets - 6 Great Gift Ideas

Sunday, January 4th, 2009
by Mark A. Martir

Going to the dentist to get your teeth pulled is probably more enjoyable that picking out a gift, even if it’s for that special someone. Of course, you may be someone that enjoys seeing people’s joy when receiving a gift from you. Either way, finding that special gift can sometimes still be a challenge.

Now, do you have someone who loves poker and to you the options seem limited? They are plain old cards and chips right? If you are passionate about something, then you understand that there’s plenty of selections if you know what you are looking for and poker is no different. Options are limitless if you search deep and hard enough. Refer to the following poker list essentials and you’ll discover a perfect gift for your favorite poker player!

1. Washable Playing Cards

Poker is not a game without a deck of these, and if you can get 2 or more the better! Have you heard of plastic cards? They can endure even the most sloppy shuffle and usually have a longer shelf life than standard cards yet feel the same. Be careful of plastic cards made of vinyl as they tend to be less durable. Oh, you can wash these cards too!

Is plastic too strange for you? Why not consider real casino approved playing decks? These cards are the same ones that are used in actual casinos. They are not drilled or straight cut cards. One will be really feel like a pro when using them.

2. Poker Chips Sets

There are endless amounts of chip variations but the only ones you need to concern yourself with are clay and clay composites. Everything else is ok but if one wants to be authentic, clay is the way to go.

Many variations such as poker chips with metal inserts are available which can effect prices drastically. Paulson is one of the most well known brands in the industry and would be a good choice. There are also many special chips with branding of your favorite football teams for example.

3. Poker Table tops

Buying a dedicated poker table might be a bit extreme so knowing that the tabletops available right now are quite affordable and cool is a good thing. Before you look for one make sure to consider the amount of players one might have as there are variations to accommodate as many as 10 players.

If you want smoother action during play then buy a tabletop with segmented centers. Plush padding can be great when playing for long periods of time and why not add some cup holders while you’re at it! At minimum, make sure that your tabletop has a vinyl bottom to protect your regular table.

The ability to be folded and stored away is an important deciding factor of which tabletop to choose. Pay attention to the felt quality as cheaper versions will quickly show signs of wear. Did I mention you can get the felt to be custom printed to have your own logos?

4. Poker Carrying Cases

When traveling to their buddies home, a nice case can make a statement. The styles available in wood make them very popular but aluminum cases have a reputation for durability. Options like a telescopic handle for easier mobility make them very desirable.

Look out for the quality of the interior. Padding varies from each manufacturer. The availability of racks and cases within the case are also a compelling reason to consider this, not to mention it keeps the poker area neat.

5. Dealer Button

You would be surprised to know that a simple button can make a difference. A unique dealer button helps one to stand out especially if you have one with a built-in tournament blind timer! This feature combines two essential elements of tournament play which is the ability to safely passed as a dealer button while at the same time keeping blind times at your fingertips.

6. Card Shufflers

Really want to impress someone? Give them a card shuffler and let them feel like there in a real casino! Battery operated and usually constructed in wood or plastic, a shuffler can make game playing easier and faster while also protecting anyone being accused of cheating. No price can be put on that.

There are two deck and four deck varieties. The shoe is the ultimate version and has a heavy steel roller, boasting a smooth action. You know you want one.

Hopefully the above list got you thinking of some interesting combination’s to create that ultimate present! Mix and match the above ideas. I’m sure whatever you ultimately choose for a gift will result in a very happy poker player.

Get Money For Free with Poker Freerolls

Thursday, January 1st, 2009
by John

Freerolls are the free tournaments of online poker. An internet poker freeroll is a poker tournament that lets you play for free but win real money. Poker Freerolls are an excellent way for both new and experienced players to win some cash and increase their Poker profits whilst risking any of their banks. This is a great way for internet casinos to bring in customers and give them a reason to play there rather than competing casinos.

There is no entrance fee as in real life tournaments and there are money prices offered usually by the organizer or by the sponsors of that particular game. The internet poker Freeroll is not always a guaranteed win but they can help improve a player’s skills while giving them a chance to win real money, prizes, or a ticket into a larger tournament.

Take a good look at your position. It helps to know when you are in the first positions and when you are among the last ones. It should be noted that in an internet poker freeroll that the player count is not like other sit and go tournaments that you may find in a poker room. This is because Texas Holdem is currently the most popular form of Poker across the world and is more likely to attract more players. Not only can a player win money in an internet poker freeroll but they can work on the skills needed to win it.

Freerolls in a strange way and there isnt such a big commitment because nobody is losing money. If you normally play conservative or like to hold onto your chips until you have a good hand, that may work in smaller tournaments but it will not work in large tournaments. Some Freerolls are available for anyone to join as long as you are registered to that casino; some are only available to enter if you have earned incentives from that casino by playing other cash games, overall an internet poker freeroll is a great way to win a lot of real money for free. Such as a player points system.

It is necessary to play smart but aggressive to make sure you cash out in the money somewhere. There are many temptations if you get bored and nothing to restrain you from them, this may mean that you have to chase some cards or go all in when you may not have the best hand. And as long as you have registered an account and you meet the qualifying criteria you may participate in the game. However this aggressiveness can pay off in the long run when you have more chips at the table than others around you.

Online Poker: Internet Poker Player

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008
by Fried Donkey

In the poker world, we saw incredible growth recently. Poker business people have made good profits during this poker boom. Let’s take a look at the ways people have made big bucks because more people ae playing poker.

Before we talk about that, let’s examine why poker has exploded. There were three key things that created the increase in people hitting the poker tables. Okay, in chronological order, this is what happened that created the increase in poker activity.

We begin in 1994 when poker player Henry Orenstein conceived, and patented, the technology for the “hole card cam”. With this invention the audience gets to know the pocket cards that the contestants have during TV replays. The beginning for “pocket cam” happened in 1997 on the british show late night poker.

Poker had been on TV since the 70’s, but no one was watching. The reason for this was that not knowing what cards the players were holding, you couldn’t follow what the players were trying to accomplish. The pocket cam made poker on TV a lot more attractive.

The next event that led to the accelerated growth of poker was the beginning of poker on the world wide web. The initial internet based poker room began in 1998. Players can now play a game of poker in the coziness of home. Internet poker will see consistent growth as players began using these new poker venues.

This sets the stage for the last piece to the puzzle. When Chris Moneymaker beats some of the top pros in the game to win the world series of poker Main Event in 2003, we see poker explode. Gaining his entry thru a $40 online poker room satellite, then winning, starts the avalanche of poker popularity.

The combination of the pocket cam creating a large audience seeing poker on TV, and the rise of online poker adding to the number of poker players, had set the stage for the “Moneymaker” effect. Everyone seeing an internet, rookie, succeed against some of the best players in the world, poker boomed.

This boom opens up a lot of potential money making opportunities for poker savvy business people. There are numerous ways to earn an income in the rapidly growing poker world. The vast majority of these choices are internet based. Let’s list a few of the businesses you could start that involve poker.

A few brave souls have turned themselves into successful professional poker players. Many people have gotten rich being an affiliate for the online poker rooms. Books that teach poker strategy are fabulous sellers.

Business people have created software products that help online players to study their own play by using the hand histories in their computer files. People are starting their own online poker rooms. You will find various poker leagues being run at local bars all over the country.

These are some, but definately not all, of the various opportunities that people have found to cash in on the poker boom. Working a poker opportunity with a web based approach certainly appears to be the most promising. The future for poker still looks bright, and the potential for making money is there for those business people that are ready to take action.

In poker, we have seen massive growth over the last few years. Business people have made good profits during the increase in poker activity. Let’s take a look at the ways people are being successful during this poker boom.

Before we do that, let’s look at why this boom has happened. We can identify 3 separate events that caused the expansion in action at the poker tables. Okay, listed in order, this is what took place that led to the poker boom.

It all starts in 1994 when poker player Henry Orenstein conceived, and patented, the equipment for the the hole card camera. Now, the viewers are able to know the pocket cards of the players during TV replays. The first appearance of this invention happened in 1997 on the british show late night poker.

Poker had been on TV since the 70’s, however few people were watching. It wasn’t very interesting watching poker because not having the knowledge of what the players were holding, you couldn’t follow what the players tactics were. This new innovation made watching poker events on TV very exciting.

The next event that led to the rapid expansion of poker was the advent of the online poker rooms. The initial web based poker room started in 1998. Now, players can play a game of poker in the coziness of virtually any place they can imagine. The online poker rooms will show steady growth over the next few years.

This sets the stage for the decisive event that caused the boom. When Chris Moneymaker beats some of the top pros in the game to win the world series of poker Main Event in 2003, poker takes off. Getting his seat from a $40 online satellite event, then winning the Main Event bracelet, completes the sequence.

The combination of the pocket cam creating a large audience watching poker on TV, and the rise of internet poker adding to the number of poker players, prepared us for the “Moneymaker” effect. Everyone seeing an online, rookie, succeed against some of the best players in the world, poker activity increased dramatically.

This boom produces numerous possibilities for forward thinking business minds. There are a lot of ways to make money in poker. Many of these businesses are internet. Here are a few of the businesses you could start in this growing industry.

Those with the skill are now trying to be professional players. Some dedicated marketers have gotten extremely wealthy being an affiliate for the online poker rooms. Books that teach poker strategy seem to be fabulous sellers.

People have created software tools that assist online players in improving their play from the games they play in. Some entrepreneurs have started their very own online poker rooms. There are live poker leagues being run at various locations just about everywhere.

These are most, but not all, of the various opportunities that people have found to cash in on the poker explosion. Operating a poker opportunity from the internet appears to be the most promising. The future for poker still looks bright, and there is plenty of money to be made for those ambitious enough to take a chance.
